On this day - Bald Eagle

Excuse me, have you seen this bird of prey with a white head?

My Dad subsequently apologized to the nice family for my outburst and thanked them for pointing out the Bald Eagle. The bird looked respelendent, idling in the Hayle Estuary salt marsh. It could easily have been fresh-in over the Atlantic. That's not such a far fetched idea, after all, it has twice occurred as a vagrant to Ireland; in both 1973 and 1987. Cornwall would be a feasible location for such a vagrant. As it happens this one had only come from as far as Paradise Park, about 400m away and the other side of the B3301.

We followed up the eagle experience with a look at a Rose-coloured Starling just up the road at Gwithian.
