Almost two weeks to the day since my last lunchtime belter; the Great Grey Shrike at Timworth - now Black-necked Grebes at Lackford!

Just in the nip of time before lockdown too - hurrah! They were always super distant, at the back of the sailing lake, but super awesome too...

I’ve seen Red-necked Grebe at Lackford before, but not Black-necked. This is odd given the amount of spring and late summer Black-necked Grebes I’ve had at Livermere, just a few miles away, over the years. As with Great Grey Shrike, another ace local bird and a privilege to be able to catch up with them on lunch. 

Now for lockdown 2! Having looked at the rules, I am hoping I’ll still be able to walk in the forest and check for Crossbills. Otherwise, back to garden biridng till December...
