Fornham All Saints and Hall Farm

Ring-necked Parakeet - Fornham All Saints - 15th January 2022

Super mellow Saturday, never even ventured out the house till 11:25. Shocking stuff.

The day was spent marching around, in a 2 mile radius to the north and east of the house. All gentle and civilised, with the good lady and a cafe stop for lunch. Don't worry - I'll go on a proper march - starting pre-dawn tomorrow. It's nice to be genteel sometimes. Not saying I am going to make a habit of it like...

The march took in the Lark Valley Path through the golf course, the sewage works and then Hall Farm including the manky farm reservoir - I know how to treat a girl.

We were rewarded with some great birds for our efforts - starting with a raucous Coot - heard only from and the first record for the house. All 5 Parakeets were on the golf course (photographic evidence secured for the haters) as well as a showy Kingfisher. Further up the valley I had my first Lesser Redpoll of the year - in the company of Siskin and Greenfinch.

The Pink-footed Geese have left the golf course after two consecutive weekends (they could still be around mind), the Green Sandpiper was still lurking in the sewage works, only my second Great Black-backed Gull of the year was flying around (with some questionable looking flesh) and my first Great Crested Grebe of the year was at the reservoir. Nice times. Will march considerably further tomorrow, fingers cross the increased distance = increased birds...
