St Agnes - Day 5
The fifth day of this epic. To be honest I have no idea what day it is. I count the days by seawatches and daily scarce. Ever in the hope of a mad rare. Not even hope anymore, there's a sense of the inevitable.
Pre-dawn and in 40+ mph winds, with absolutely pissing rain, we made our way down to Horse Point. After the overnight Atlantic low we were almost guaranteed a mega sea-bird experience. As we walked out over Wingletang Down there was an old lady floundering in the squall. Caught out the nigh before on her way back from the Turk's. She begged for us to help, but we were focused on seawtaching and faced palmed her, before going on our way. As we walked past Beady Pool we could heard the sirens, trying to deceive us into a watery grave; Rob shockered one. I stole their wallets and then we carried on up the Point...
It's fair to say the walk out there with sideways rain, lashing wind and pitch blackness was epic. Just the pin-points of our head torches guiding the way. We arrived in the wolf light, with sea fret set in and waited for the action. The intensity of the overnight weather did not deliver, even compared with yesterday's seawatch, we managed a paltry; 4 Cory's, 3 Sooty and 1 Balearic Shearwater - but one makes do:
